On the Isle of Wight, escalators are almost unknown. The one in BHS (now reborn as B&M) was the first – and only went up, you had to walk down (or stay up there). So when Sainsbury’s Newport opened with an actual travelator in it, people got quite excited. In all seriousness people would go to Sainbury’s just to try it out, and watch others. Well, now you can too.
You may be thinking this is like the Bude Tunnel. In some ways it is, but this is far better in that it actually moves!
And if you enjoyed this, don’t forget there’s been another similar travelator in the Co-op, Anglesea Street, Ryde, for years. Somehow nobody got so excited about that one.
