Get close to nature at Rocken End

There are many lovely and award-winning beaches on the Isle of Wight and some have their own mentions on this website, although we can’t and won’t mention them all. Other beaches are wilder and remote and, like Rocken End, tricky to access. The beach is not easy to reach as to get there involves a fairly long climb down rough terrain and unmarked paths. But this also makes it quieter, and more special. If you are particularly adventurous, you might enjoy its glorious views across the Heritage Coast, towards Freshwater, the twinkling English Channel and also its status as the Isle of Wight’s unofficial naturist beach.

From the car park at Sandrock Road, make your way along the footpath to some steps hewn into the slope. If you are lucky the knotted rope will still be there. You’ll need to scramble and lower yourself down to the beach. Phone signal doesn’t exist here and the way is rough and unmarked – be prepared, and wear stout footwear. Ideally go with someone who knows the way!
